Steffi Frech and Laura Daede form a sonorous alliance as CHILDREN, which captures the pulsating energy of Berlin's twenties in their future retro pop. With shimmering synthesizers, melodic bass lines and harmonious vocals, they tell of love, the ups and downs of city life and combine the here and now with nostalgic sounds of the 2000s, inspired by the radio hits of their youth.
For Steffi Frech and Laura Daede, the future begins tomorrow and their friendship begins with music. The two friends know each other from their childhood in a small Nordic town and found their sound together in Berlin as CHILDREN: shimmering retro synthesizers, melodic bass lines and, above all, their harmonious singing - Future Retro Pop by <3.
Their upcoming album HYPE, alternating between German and English, tells of their life in Berlin in the twenties, love in the age of the internet and all the ups and downs that go with it. Their shared memories of a carefree youth in the rural idyll, but also the excitement of the metropolis, can be heard in their music. The songs of the two musicians sound like the here and now with a pinch of nostalgia for the 2000s and enthusiasm for the radio hits of their childhood.
The new single Forever & Ewig already carries the fun of the language mix in the title and is a homage to power ballads from the 80s with a touch of Caribbean steel drum flair that is reminiscent of Claire Laffut and Erobique.
It's been a long time since we've heard a pop song like this from a German band, says Daniel Koch (former editor-in-chief of Intro): "The moments when Laura and Steffi's voices alternate and lyrically dissect what is today considered romantic togetherness send shivers down your spine: 'Forever is exactly up to now and here, that's anything but fair. If I still need you, it's not because of you.'"
The video for the song tells a story of togetherness that is far removed from romance, à la Thelma and Louise: Two friends go into hiding in the supposed idyll of the province after committing a crime together. Trailer park romance meets 70s Côte d'Azur vibe. The ending remains open, as does the question: what remains forever?
