Gang of Four
Gang of Four returns after years with "CONTENT", a powerful album that combines the intensity of their post-punk heritage with intelligent rock 'n' roll. The band remains relevant and inspiring, their music continues to shape generations and triumphantly defines the face of rock 'n' roll.
Gang Of Four, the post-punk heroes who spawned numerous imitators, are back with new material for the first time since 1995.
Pitchfork – Tom Breihan
Just as strong and insightful as their predecessors, founding members Jon King and Andy Gill have now put their new album CONTENT, the intelligent, strong and liberating rock'roll that is both challenging and simply exciting.
"We try to preserve ourselves, to strip everything down so that every band member can make an equally intense contribution," says King.
With the simple but powerful and loud sound of the drums, guitar, bass and vocals on the new tracks such as “Who Am I?,” “You Don't Have To Be Mad,” “I Can't Forget Your Lonely Face” and “I Party All The Time,” the songwriting on CONTENT in 2010 just as unconventional and challenging as in 1978.
"What has kept us going all these years is that our music still seems to make sense to our audience, no matter how old they are; and these days the audience is mostly under 30," says King. "They tell us that our music means something to them, that it inspires them to start a band. I'm really amazed. When we started, I never imagined that we would still have this meaning after so long."
Starting with one of the most outstanding debut albums in music (1979's ENTERTAINMENT), they influenced a whole generation of punk, post-punk and indie rock bands (REM, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sonic Youth, Bloc Party, The Rapture, Franz Ferdinand and hundreds more) and triumphantly defined their place in rock'roll.
