“Men cry secretly,” Herbert Grönemeyer sings in the song “Männer” in 1984. Not so Ariel Oehl, the singer and songwriter. Ariel shows his feelings on three records, in the monthly newsletter, on Instagram, and on stage.
Music that feels like a hug
His songs get under your skin and are anything but sentimental. They deal with the big issues of society and are served on driving beats, with lively bass lines and a gentleness that is unparalleled in German-language indie pop. Oehl's music is heavy and light at the same time, a sum of opposites that come together in the music and, as they say in Austria, "work out" quite naturally. On stage, Oehl is a 5-person live band whose deep affection for one another is not hidden from the audience.
Oehl has been under contract with Grönemeyer's label Grönland since 2019 and, after "Über Nacht" (2020) and "100% Hoffnung" (2021), he also released the album "Keine Blumen" in 2022. tips for playing: Ceramics, Satt Werden, No Fear. In the summer of 2024, Oehl surprised everyone with "TOM", including six sad songs to dance to, three music videos and an unusual electronic sound. A new single in October entitled "This year we only talk well of each other" sounds conciliatory and gives hope for a new album. A tour is on sale for spring 2025.
