Pet
Sounding retro and yet futuristic means walking a tightrope with a good feeling for the right balance. And if you also have pop in mind, you have to have an enormous sense of balance. Pet dared to do just that on their second long player "Rewind The Sofa Lady" and didn't fall. The fact that they use the word "Rewind" in the title is telling. Because with spacey synths, a good portion of psychedelia, catchy guitars, movement-promoting funk basslines and radio-friendly hooks that groove beyond the usual patterns, a lot of things from the past are taken up and charmingly translated into the here and now, from glam rock to synth pop to tragic guitar rock.
PET are really rather fabulous and could well be the next band that are a little too odd to have any right to cross over to the mainstream (see also the Scissor Sisters).

PET are lots and lots of fun

This versatility earned them great applause for their debut album “Player One Ready” (2004). England’s leading radio DJs, such as Jon Kennedy (XFM), Steve Lamacq (Radio One) and the late John Peel, were particularly enthusiastic about the Band and invited them to studio sessions. For their second album, they now partly relied on the skills of producer Gareth Parton. This refined their eclectic class, as the Brit had recently produced the album “Thunder, Lighting, Strike” among others. of the Go!Team.
Pet started out as a solo project by Andre Abshagen. Today, the name stands for a German-Italian quartet whose creative center is formed by the two Berlin-based artists Miss Mono and Andre. The latter made his first electric guitar out of cardboard at the age of eight. later played in the experimental, electronic band "Dauerfisch" and eventually founded his own musical baby called Pet. Miss Mono, on the other hand, once went to Berlin for university. In addition to working with Pet, she now travels the world from there as a TV journalist.
Fresh, grown up pop with a twist… a sparkling electronic jewel.

The Italian half of Pet also has a lot to show for itself. Drummer Dodo Nkishi is known as the man on the sticks for the Cologne-Düsseldorf duo Mouse On Mars. Bassist Stefania Vacca, on the other hand, grew up in Sardinia and discovered in her early teenage years that she loved art, She was more interested in politics and music - primarily punk, reggae and rock - than choral music. Infected by the art virus, she then moved to London, where she eventually met Dodo.

But the geographical distance within the band does not mean any problems when it comes to collaboration. After all, we live in the 21st century, which allows us to easily send new ideas back and forth via the Internet and Skype.
Maybe that is what sets Pet apart from the rest. Drummer Dodo is sure that they fill a gap when he says with a smile: “We believe that Pet addresses two important areas of life. Firstly, we make people feel an atmosphere that invites you to dance and celebrate; on the other hand, we give a sense of togetherness to those who don't feel like celebrating.” Nothing needs to be added to that.
Abshagen is very much in thrall to Atari bleeps and Seventies glam, and such Player One Ready is his nostalgic, soft focus trip.
