About the EP:
One thing must be clear: When the dreamy poets of the Viennese music group OEHL suddenly start to criticize capitalism bluntly, then something is wrong with this world. Then it is urgent. Or, to quote Ariel Oehl: "If you take a look at the global financial economy and the world of work, you really have to become a Marxist."
Work without joy, shopping without meaning, everyday life without perspective: the band presents a mini concept album heavy on content. But they don't want to make us depressed, on the contrary. They want to shake us awake or at least sharpen our senses for all the contradictions that we constantly live with.
The world is a bit fucked and the problem is: we are the world. Even us, who give a moral lecture in the morning about the importance of fair trade products and in the afternoon have some Chinese rubbish delivered on Amazon for five euros. Anyone who recognizes this has two options: give up or fight back. OEHL have made the decision. "Since I had a son, I've been thinking a lot more about the world we leave behind. After all, he'll have to live in it one day. Or - who knows - survive," says Ariel Oehl. "For that reason alone, I want to believe in a change for the better. If we don't believe in it ourselves, how can things get better?"
It can get better. It must get better. It will get better. Don't give up. 100% hope! That is the overarching idea of this EP. As described by bassist Hjörtur Hjörleifsson: "Hope doesn't solve all problems, but it sets the tone and shows where things should go. It is our capital in negotiating a better future."
